Today, I am thankful to finally be moved into our new house. After 4 months of house selling, house searching, and house packing, we are now moved in, albeit swimming in a sea of boxes, thank you very much.
I am grieving my old house. And in this time of grief, it’s important to remember what I loved and will miss about that house:
1. I’ll miss the wonderful stocked lake across the street. The one where the girls and I would feed ducks during warmer months. And, the one we’d run from with geese the size of my 5 year olds who darted after us. Or maybe they were just after the bread. We never stuck around long enough to know for sure!
2. I loved the great park within walking distance. Inevitably, when we went to feed the ducks, we would make our way to the park where we would easily play for 2-3 hours at a time.
3. I’ll miss old Ms. Fitzgerald, our 90-something neighbor who, when we moved in proclaimed right off the bat, “I’m not black!” And, I could visually confirm this to be true. She was, in fact, NOT black.
4. I will miss Elke’s – Allen’s little secret to wonderful food and desserts! I have grown to love Elke’s AND Elke Marsh, the owner. And her coca-cola cake. I’m drooling just thinking about it.
5. I’ll…not miss…or miss…yeah, I’ll miss the crazy marine neighbor. His truck tailgate was COVERED in bumper stickers reading, among many, “Everyone wants to be a marine” (to which I always answered in my head, “I don’t”) and “The few, the proud, marines!” If he had any idea that his neighbors were granola-eating-homeschooling hippies, I feel CERTAIN he would not have moved our trash bin back to its correct place each and every Thursday, trash day, for the past 9.5 years. Then again, maybe he would have. Who am I to judge the man who lingers waaaaay too long in his garage where his full size woman pinups are?
There are many things I will miss, but more than anything, I am grateful and thankful for the wonderful home that gave us shelter, a wonderful view, and colorful neighbors for so many years.
And, I am thankful for my new home, wonderful golf course view, and incredibly friendly neighbors.
Love,
Your Thankful Shrink
